SISTER - Solution d'imagerie de surface pour les récifs tempérés
Can we automatically evaluate the surface of honeycomb worm reefs on rocky shores?
The main objective of the SISTER project is to use drones and to develop an image processing chain in order to propose a habitat map for Sabellaria alveolata (a.k.a. honeycomb worm) on rocky shores. This species develops bioconstructions of ecological interest and is the focus of management and restoration policies in marine protected areas all across EU coasts.
As a result, this project is developed in collaboration with and within the marine natural park Estuaire de la Gironde et Mer des Pertuis (Office Français pour la Biodiversité) where these bioconstructions are omnipresent. The construction of an image processing chain should provide managers with a tool to assess the surface of this habitat and thus meet the European Directives such as the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
