How Marine Litter Spreads Non-Indigenous Species

The French Invasive Alien Species Resource Centre has published an article explaining the link between plastic pollution at sea and the introduction of marine non-indigenous species (NIS).

The projects and working groups that address this issue are presented. One example is the "Clean Atlantic" project, in which the LEBCO studied the role of seafloor marine litter, brought up from the seabed by trawlers during fishing campaigns, as a vector of NIS introduction.
